Two of northern Tanzania's most rewarding parks in a single fly-in trip from Zanzibar — Tarangire's elephant herds and ancient baobabs on day one, Lake Manyara's tree-climbing lions and flamingo-dotted shoreline on day two, with a night at Farm of Dreams in Karatu between them.
In the dry season, herds of several hundred elephants gather along the Tarangire River — the area's only permanent water.
Some of the baobabs punctuating this savannah are believed to be several centuries old.
Lake Manyara is one of only a handful of places on earth where lions are known to rest in the branches.
From November to April, when water levels are highest, large flocks gather on the alkaline shallows.
Karatu, on full board — dinner, bed, breakfast and lunch included.
Over 550 species recorded in Tarangire and 400 at Lake Manyara, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
A morning flight carries you from Zanzibar to Arusha, where your driver-guide meets you at the airport for the road transfer to Tarangire National Park, roughly two to two and a half hours. The midday game drive runs through a landscape famed for its enormous elephant herds and ancient baobabs, pausing for a picnic lunch in the park. The afternoon continues south through Tarangire before the transfer on to Karatu, arriving at Farm of Dreams for dinner and an overnight stay on full board.
After breakfast at Farm of Dreams, a short transfer of thirty to forty-five minutes brings you to Lake Manyara National Park. The mid-morning game drive explores a park known for its tree-climbing lions, its flamingos along the lake shore, and the lush groundwater forest at its entrance. Following a picnic lunch, you transfer back to Arusha for the evening flight home to Zanzibar.
