Locally owned, passionately operated — delivering Tanzania's wildlife magic since 2020.
Zanzibar Mikumi Safaris was founded with a simple but powerful mission: to help every visitor to Zanzibar experience the extraordinary wildlife that lies just a short flight away on the Tanzanian mainland.
We recognized that while thousands of tourists enjoy Zanzibar's beautiful beaches each year, many leave without experiencing Tanzania's incredible wildlife — simply because the logistics seemed too complex or time-consuming. We set out to change that.
Today, Zanzibar Mikumi Safaris is the leading fly-in safari specialist operating from Zanzibar. We've perfected the art of combining the best of Zanzibar — the beaches, the spice island culture, the turquoise Indian Ocean — with the wild heart of Tanzania.
Every safari we run is designed with meticulous attention to detail, from the pre-dawn hotel pickups to the expert guidance in the field, to ensure you return to Zanzibar not just satisfied, but genuinely transformed by what you've witnessed.
Everything we do is guided by a deep love for Tanzania's wild places and the people who visit them.
We operate in strict adherence to park regulations and support conservation initiatives in Mikumi and Tanzania's other protected areas.
We employ local guides, purchase supplies from local businesses, and contribute to community development initiatives in the Mikumi region.
From prompt responses to punctual pickups to perfect safari logistics — we hold ourselves to the highest standards in everything we do.
We were among the first operators to perfect the fly-in day safari from Zanzibar, giving guests maximum park time with minimum travel stress.
All our guides hold Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) and TALA certification, with extensive field experience in Mikumi.
Fully licensed by the Tanzania Tourism Authority (TTA) with comprehensive public liability insurance for complete peace of mind.
We're always available via WhatsApp, phone, or email — before, during, and after your safari. No automated responses; real people, real help.
We let our guests' words speak for the quality and passion we put into every safari.
"Outstanding experience from start to finish. The team picked us up at 5:30am, the flight was smooth, and within the first hour of game driving we'd already spotted a pride of lions! Our guide Ayo was extraordinary — so knowledgeable and passionate."
"We were nervous about fitting a safari into our Zanzibar honeymoon, but this company made it effortless. The 2-day package was perfect — beautiful camp, amazing food, and we saw 4 of the Big Five! Could not recommend more highly."
"I travel to Africa frequently and this was genuinely one of my best safari experiences. The fly-in from Zanzibar is a genius concept, and Mikumi is absolutely spectacular. Truly professional operation with heart — they love what they do."
Everything you need to know before booking your Mikumi safari.
Mikumi is a year-round destination, but the dry season (June–October) offers the best wildlife viewing. Animals concentrate around water sources, vegetation is clear, and game drives are easiest. However, the green season (Jan–May) offers lush scenery and newborn animals, while the short rains (Nov–Dec) bring exceptional birdwatching.
The domestic flight from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) to Mikumi Airstrip takes approximately 45 minutes. You'll fly over the Tanzanian coast and mainland in a small charter aircraft, which is itself a beautiful experience with aerial views of the landscape.
Mikumi offers outstanding Big Five viewing — lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and rhino (occasional). You'll also typically see zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, wildebeest, cheetah, hyena, baboon, and over 400 bird species. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed in the wild, but Mikumi has very high success rates year-round.
Absolutely! Our fly-in 1-day safari gives you approximately 8–9 hours in the park with both morning and afternoon game drives — the peak activity times. Most guests see more animals in a day at Mikumi than in multiple days at more crowded parks. It's a genuine, outstanding safari experience in a single day.
We recommend: neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, green, brown — no bright colours), a light jacket for early mornings, sunscreen and insect repellent, a hat, sunglasses, your camera, and a small daypack. We provide water throughout the day. For overnight safaris, casual clothing for evenings is sufficient — no formal wear needed.
