Tanzania Tourist Visa
Most international visitors to Tanzania require a tourist visa. The standard tourist visa costs USD 50 for citizens of most countries, and is valid for 90 days with single entry. There are two ways to obtain it:
- Visa on arrival at Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ) — available to most nationalities. Pay in USD cash or by card. Queue times vary; allow 30–60 minutes.
- eVisa (online) — Apply in advance at eservices.immigration.go.tz. Faster processing through immigration. Recommended for those who prefer certainty.
Which Nationalities Do Not Need a Visa?
Citizens of East African Community (EAC) member states — Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan — do not require a visa to enter Tanzania. Citizens of Comoros, Eritrea and certain other countries also have visa-free or visa-on-arrival arrangements. Always verify current requirements for your nationality before travel.
Passport Validity
Tanzania requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay. A passport with less than 6 months validity will not be accepted at immigration. Check your expiry date well before booking.
Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate
A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a yellow fever-endemic country. This includes most of sub-Saharan Africa and parts of South America. Even if you are arriving from Europe or North America, if you have transited through a yellow fever country in the preceding 12 months, you may be required to show the certificate. Check current requirements for your specific origin country.
Entry via Zanzibar vs. Mainland Tanzania
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania. If you enter Tanzania via Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ), you are entering Tanzania — the same visa and passport rules apply. You do not need a separate Zanzibar visa. If you later travel to the mainland (for overnight northern circuit safaris, for example), your Tanzania visa covers both.
Note on Visas and Safari Parks
Safari park fees, vehicle fees and conservation charges are separate from visa fees and are included in all our safari packages. You do not pay any additional government fees on arrival at the parks.
Current Information
Immigration rules change. Always verify current visa requirements for your specific nationality with the Tanzania Immigration Services Department (tanzaniaimmigration.go.tz) or your country's Tanzania embassy before travel. We advise on the current situation at the time of booking.
